Textiles

Overview

In Textile design students will develop skills across a broad range of textiles techniques including fashion textiles, costume design and digital textiles. It provides students the chance to creatively engage with the world around them and developing their technical skills. The study of art and design Textiles equips students with transferable skills that will support them in both further study and a range of careers.

Year 12

Portfolio Project

Students will produce practical and critical/contextual work in one or more areas of study, for example, fashion design, fashion textiles, costume design, digital textiles, printed and/or dyed fabrics and materials, domestic textiles, wallpaper, interior design, constructed textiles, art textiles and installed textiles. It provides students the chance to creatively engage with the world around them and developing their technical skills.

Year 13

Personal Investigation: Major Project and Related Study

Externally Set Task: Based on a series of set themes provided by AQA.

In Year 13, students are encouraged to specialise within certain textile areas based on their experiences in Year 12 to produce a personal and in-depth practical project.

Topics studied in the syllabus include:

Surface decoration techniques including fabric printing, mono-printing, relief printing, screen printing and laser printing; tie-dye and batik; spraying and transfer; fabric construction; stitching, appliqué, patchwork, padding, quilting and embroidery and other surface decorations of personal interest.
