Students react to Chancellor’s Budget

A-level Politics students had a front row seat to a major national event recently, as they watched Chancellor Rachel Reeves deliver her Autumn Budget.

ITV Central News joined the class to capture their immediate reactions, with the segment later broadcast on the evening news programme.

Students engaged thoughtfully with the announcements and reflected on how the proposed policies might affect young people and the wider community. They discussed the introduction of new charges for electric and hybrid vehicles and the plans to boost apprenticeships, sharing views on how these measures could shape future training and transport choices.

They also examined the rise in the minimum wage, the increase to the sugar tax on milk-based drinks and the decision to end the two-child benefit cap. Throughout the session, students linked the Chancellor’s proposals to themes covered in their course, demonstrating a strong grasp of political decision making and its real world impact.

The experience gave students a valuable insight into how political announcements are reported and how public reaction shapes the national conversation.

Once again, we are proud of how confidently they represented the school on camera and how well they articulated their views on complex topics.
