Sharing Scam Safety Advice on the radio

Several students recently featured on BBC Radio Leicester as part of Scam Safe Week, where they shared their experiences of encountering online scams and discussed how young people can protect themselves.

During the segment, students spoke openly about the risks they have seen on social media and how easily scammers can target young people online. They explained the warning signs they look out for and the steps they take to stay safe, offering valuable insight from a young person’s perspective.

The students were joined by Craig from the charity Warning Zone, who praised their maturity and awareness. He was impressed by how confidently they were able to recognise situations where they might be at risk of being scammed.

The visit followed research from the UK Safer Internet Centre, which found that exposure to scams is now a routine part of life online for young people. According to the study, 79% of 8 to 17-year-olds come across scams at least once a month, almost half encounter them weekly and one in five see scams online every day.

We are proud of the students for representing the school so well and for using their voices to raise awareness of an issue that affects young people across the country.
